Multiphase flow has become one of the core disciplines in fluid dynamics and combustion. It is omnipresentin natural phenomena and industrial applications, for example falling raindrops, inkjet printing, insecticide spraying, and processes within liquid-fueled combustors such as diesel and rocket engines. The understanding and the modeling of multiphase flows are therefore major issues for those applications. Owing to the complexity, different approaches have to be combined to study the various aspects of multiphase flows. The main research areas in the center include: droplet collision dynamics; high speed droplets and jets; numerical simulation of spray and particle combustion; droplet combustion; multi-component liquid fuels; multi-phase flows in microgravity sciences; Leidenfrost effect; coal combustion, etc.
