Turbulent Combustion

The turbulent combustion group is aimed at experimentally investigating the combustion characteristics e.g., flame propagation/ stabilization, ignition/extinction and emissions etc. in various laboratory flames; and aimed at developing models and computational methodologies for the calculation of turbulent reactive flows, especially turbulent combustion in engine applications. Discrete Boltzmann methods (DBM) and direct numerical simulation (DNS) coupled with detailed transport and chemistry are employed to reveal the (non-equilibrium) physio-chemical process in turbulent flames and produce high fidelity data for modelling. For statistical descriptions of reactive flows, we focus on transported probability density function (TPDF) methods, LES/TPDF, and adaptive combustion modelling applied to turbulent flames; acceleration methods for combustion chemistry; micro-mixing models, and uncertainty quantification for turbulent combustion simulations.
